Roberto Rodriguez returns to his own Serenades label with the eclectic and inventive Sensible EP. The Helsinki based DJ and producer has been in the game for over 15 years, paying his dues with an enviable back catalogue that spans 50+ releases on such taste-making labels as Compost, Freerange, Delusions Of Grandeur, Room With A View, FINA and Eskimo, to name but a few. Here, he delivers a beautiful 3-track EP that fully showcases his knack for effortlessly fresh and musical dance music.
‚Sensible Jungle Tune‘ is an atmospheric, shimmering, ethereal piece – layered with sound-sca- pes, field recordings, submerged melodies and poly-rhythmic tribal grooves. Definitely one for the heads, this has an ambient quality that suggests a producer quite willing to take risks – and all the better for it. ‚If I Had You‘ is a different affair – a mid tempo house chugger, with melancholy chords and sparkling keys, driven along on an infectious groove, and sure to get serious attention from the balearic DJs this summer. ‚Steal My Heart‘ is also refreshingly hard to define, throwing in elements of broken beat, garage, pop and deep house to produce a jam that will bring a smile to the face of everyone who hears it.

Some say that September is the monday of the year. At least here in Finland it kind of feels that way after a this fantastic warm summer we’ve had.
Here are the latest charts from Roberto Rodriguez collected all in one place. Lots and lots of great records coming out this month. Here’s a few of them.
In a sense this first one is a very traditional house record. It has disco & soul samples and groovy beats with latin percussion.
But what lies under the top notch production are some serious party monsters. Great job from DJ Fudge & Kiko Navarro.
This next one is the latest from Ludovic Llorca as Art Of Tones. Smooth groove, cool vocal samples and children singing. Can’t go wrong with that. The whole ep is highly recommended.
Kito Jempere is a new moniker of a young talented producer from St. Petersburg, better known from his disco stuff as SPDSC.
Having heard a bunch of demos from the man, its no wonder we are now getting to see his productions on very serious labels.
Great stuff all the way. Confusion EP coming out on Jimpster’s Freerange in early October.
Finally we have the latest from the swedish producer Erik Ericksson on Swedish Brandy Productions. A fantastic dub-ish groover perfect for the darkening nights.
Here are the collected Roberto Rodriguez charts for August 2013. The summer is nearing its end (at least here in Finland), but that doesn’t mean there isn’t some great summer music still coming out. Here are some of this months chart highlights.
This first one is the latest from the house music rising star HNNY. After the amazing releases on Local Talk and the great Brandy & Monica “remix” ‘Boy’, we see HNNY take over Brookly’s finest Let’s Play House. The ep is called ‘Mys’ and will be out on September 2nd.
The second highlight is Washerman. Gianni Siravo (some of you may also know his as Azuni) is rolling out a new album as Washerman called ‘Raw Poet’ which hits the stores late September. Before that we will have this super taster of things to come in the form of ‘Raw Poet EP’. Both, the ep and the album will be released by Drumpoet Community. The release date for the ep is September 6th. Sneaker Girlz is one monster of a tune.
Lastly we have the latest offering from Mr. Phil Dairmount’s Room With A View label. It’s a four track VA EP called ‘Days Of Our Lives’. The ep features fantastic tracks from Kyodai, Carlo, Sahin Meyer and from Roberto Rodriguez himself as well. The vinyl hits the stores August 26th. While the digital follows later on.
May we introduce you to pothOles, our latest Serenades family member.
pothOles is a new moniker of a Helsinki based producer Aslak, who has been producing music for years and years with various monikers and various different styles. His production style usually leans more towards deep techy house sounds, but with Chauma he slows things down and heads for the pool.
The origins of the title ‘Chauma’ comes all the way down from Kenya, Africa where he lived for one year with his girlfriend. The town where they lived had only one decent bar that also happened to have the best beer in hundreds of kilometers radius. An oasis in the midst of the wilderness so to speak. That bar was named Chauma.
The time he spent in Kenya and at the bar Chauma turned out to be a big inspiration for his music. Luckily pothOles had his mobile studio with him. And with that this lovely edit/rework was born.
You can buy ‘Chauma’ with the Manolo interpretation in these fine stores.
Here are the latest charts from Roberto Rodriguez all in one neat package. This months charts include some amazing new music for the summer. One of the highlights is the husband and wife album project of Nicole Willis and Jimi Tenor called Cola & Jimmu – Enigmatic. It surely is one of the best House albums of the year so far.
Another highlight comes from the norwegian mastermind Todd Terje. Once again he has managed to make a brilliant feel good track. ‘Strandbar’ which means ‘Beach’ in english has all the right ingredients for a summer hit. All points are showing that its rapidly becoming one. Great balance between naivety and coolness.
One more highlight is the latest from the US label Undertones. Late last year they released a fantastic ep ‘First Supplement’ from The Nathaniel X Project. Now this ep gets a sequel in the form of ‘Supplement Deux’. Once again the producer Nate Tinsley gives us 4 fantastic true deep house tracks.
Picking remixers for remix packs is not always easy. First you have to pick remixers that really drive you musically. On the other hand you need to think of variation so that the whole pack doesn’t sound exactly the same. When it came down to deciding remixers for ‘Lies’ it all came quite naturally. These were all artists i wanted to get involved with Serenades one way or the other. Arttu (Clone, 4Lux), Kyodai (Local Talk, Freerange, Poker Flat) and Satin Jackets (Eskimo, Glam Jam Artists), they all have their distinct trademark sound. From Arttu’s gritty warehouse sound to Satin Jacket’s more polished smooth disco vibes via Kyodai’s groovy jazz house, they all gave the original their own unique touches.Arttu ended up delivering three cool variations of his fantastic warehouse slow burner. So in order to keep the remixes more in balance, it was best to divide them in two separate releases. This worked well. The Arttu mixes got peoples full attention and were highly praised by dj’s and music fans all over the club hemisphere. Now its time to shift the attention to the second part of the package.
Ever since they had their smash hit ‘Breaking’ last summer on Local Talk, Kyodai has been in high demand with remix offers flying in from doors and windows. The spanish born, Berlin based brothers have been making music for a long time with various monikers, but its with this new name: Kyodai (means brothers in Japanese), they are starting to be on everybody’s map. Even with their busy production schedule they managed to find the time for this one.
“We really love Roberto’s album ‘Dawn’. So much that we recorded a special radio show for it when it came out. ‘Lies’ is one of our favourite tracks of the album. Good deep house vibes and it is the real Roberto’s sound, Max is a great singer. We really love the track and the vocals, so it was a pleasure to do. We really enjoyed doing a our interpretation and now it is one of our favourite part of our live set.”
What they came up with in the end is a super groovy track with live drums and jazzy rhodes chords. That may sound simple but the guys really pulled it off nicely in a fresh way. With the Jazzy club vibes of Kyodai and the stomping warehouse rawness of the Arttu mixes, it was good to have something sweet and fresh along. Thats where the german Nu Disco mastermind Satin Jackets comes to the picture.
Earlier this year Satin Jackets (Tim Bernhardt) had a massive disco hit ‘You Make Me Feel Good’ on Eskimo which has collected over 350k plays on Soundcloud to this date.
Even though Satin Jackets’s remixes are in high demand and running his own Glam Jam Artists and Pole Jam labels takes a lot of his time the decision to remix this one wasn’t a hard one.
“I respect all of Roberto’s work and this one sounded like a downright classic from him. I’m a sucker for good vocals so yeah, I wanted to give it a full feature because it stuck to me right away.”
He certainly did deliver a fantastic summer remix.
After his ‘Lies’ remix he is not showing any signs of slowing down.
“I have just finished remixes for Follow Me on Heavy Roc, Rony Breaker on Jalapeno Records and Prunk on Double Tree. Also, there’s going be a new SJ original upcoming on Eskimo. Currently, my first vinyl release on Glam Jam Artists together with Pole Position is being pressed. We call our joint venture Pole Jam Vinyl and it’s going to feature two tracks each from KLar&PF and Deep Sound Express. Very exciting stuff “
Looking very good for him. Can’t wait to hear all the stuff he is releasing.
It was almost one year ago when Roberto Rodriguez’s critically acclaimed debut album ‘Dawn’ saw the light of day.
The second single release from the album ‘Lies feat. Max C’ comes in the form of two remix packs.
In this first pack the track gets three interpretations from the man of the hour Arttu. Arttu uses his signature raw and rough touch to turn the original in to a fat warehouse stomper.
The next Serenades release comes from a long time friend of the label. We are super excited and proud to have Nacho Marco join the Serenades family with this fantastic new balearic rock disco track called ‘Let’s Go Silly’ Nacho Marco is a spanish DJ and producer from the lovely city of Valencia who started his career already in the late 80′s.
